THE MUSIC SCENE IN THE 70’s and 80’s in MY TOWN

This Blog is designed to introduce you to musicians and bands that played in Wilmington, Delaware in the 1970’s and 80’s and many of them are still actively playing today in 2016. I first heard their music in the early 70’s when I attended the University of Delaware but I moved to Salt Lake City until 1988. After that I returned to Delaware and later re-met some friends and met new friends who play music and keep local music in the Delaware, Pennsylvania area active and alive.

The BlUE ROCKS, MARK KENNEALLY AND ROCKETT 88 WERE TWO OF MY FAVORITES.

A SINCERE REQUEST

I spend a great deal of time deleting comments that are in foreign languages, that are spam, and many that DO NOT have anything to do with this BLOG. Many are asking me how to write a BLOG. I DO NOT respond to these posts and I delete them.

It is my desire that those who respond to my BLOG actually ADD information about their experiences regarding the Music Scene in the 80’s in Wilmington. If your response is just a short “I enjoy your BLOG”, I will most likely not post it. This is not out of disrespect, but there is no room for the posts.

I will be asking my web-master how to create a link for those who want to follow the Blog. Otherwise, please leave your responses to those of you who have knowledge of this subject.

Thanks very much.

NEARLY A WEEK

It has been nearly one week since the Horse and Buggy Reunion. Already Wayne Watson is talking about returning (perhaps this summer) for another reunion of some sorts. This time it might be more mellow music with his brother Gary. We will certainly be looking forward to his return.

I have it on good authority to report that Mark Kenneally will also be playing at the beach in Delaware as well as Maryland this summer. I will keep you posted on his dates as soon as I know when he’s going to be playing in Lewes or Rehoboth (and where!).

TWO NIGHTS AFTER

Saturday night was amazing. There are really no words to describe it so far. I ask you to help me with your words.

The night started out with the band Hoi Polloi. Don told me they had not played together for over twenty years. Jimmy McFadden, Tony Winkler and Rick Bell played guitar and sang; Fred DiTomasso played bass and also did vocals. Tony Geddes was the drummer for Hoi Polloi.

They next band to play was Michael Davis and the Bullets. Michael (Kid) Davis was at lead guitar. Bob Bloomingdale played a hot upright bass and did vocals, and Walter Epting played drums

The next band to play was The Nik Everett Band. Nik has a new album available “Summer’s Gone”. Click here to listen to song “Everytime you Build Me Up”. Nik also spent a great deal of time planning the event with Don Bunnell. His website is at http://www.nikeverett.com/ .

Nik was followed by one my favorites, Mark Kenneally. He played with Dr. Harmonica and Rockett 88. Last summer Dr. H. won the National Blues Society Hall of Fame Award after the Riverfront Blues Festival.

Finally, The Blue Rocks arrived. Gary and Wayne Watson played guitar and Randy Coleman played bass. Wayne Beardwood backed them up with a hot saxophone and Chris Sherlock played the drums. Although they had not practiced together for nearly 23 years I believe everyone left feeling like they were home again; back at the Buggy (back in the 80s again.

Wayne Watson posted this list of the songs The Blue Rocks played Saturday night.
