According to information found on his website:

Starting out as a solo folk and country performer back in 1971, Kenny continued on through the century playing blues, rock, country, bluegrass, reggae, pop and almost everything else in numerous incarnations of the Kenny Mullins Band.

It’s 2011 and Kenny is bringing it all back home with his latest CD and a year of touring and performing primarily solo. His new album, Human Songs, is a throwback to Kenny’s beginnings and to the early days of country and blues music and the great folk scene of the 50’s and 60’s.

The spirit that flows through Human Songs is the same spirit flowing through the early works of Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Johnny Cash, Doc Watson, John Prine, Leonard Cohen, Tom Paxton, Richard Thompson and other ‘folk’ artists as well as early blues and country performances such as Jimmie Rodgers, Lonnie Johnson, Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams.

The thirteen songs range from the Blind Lemon Jefferson influenced blues, “Walking Down the Highway” to “The Lone Soldier” an a cappella hymn. “Lonesome Blues” shows the influence of the legendary Lonnie Johnson while “Lucky To Be Alive” tips it’s hat more than a little to ‘singing brakeman’, Jimmie Rodgers.

The final track, “Playing God”, is a furious indictment of the death penalty and our complicity as a democracy.
The songs on this CD were recorded at “various times and places and in various states of mind and circumstances”.

Since I last checked Kenny as published quite a few great YouTubes. I have purchased 3 of his CD’s. Two for myself and one for an old friend of his and mine.

Here are a few of his songs.

VOICES ON THE WIND

THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG BY KENNY MULLINS

PLAYING GOD

Kenny is a wise and generous, politically active man. In 1990, Kenny formed A.U.T.E.H (Artists United to End Homelessness) and put together a compilation recording of 22 mid coast bands. With Kenny’s song, “It Could’ve Been Me”, as the title track, all the profits and proceeds from affiliated concerts helped raise money for and awareness about the nations homeless. Although, he shares on his website that he had drug problems earlier in his life he overcame them and now lives a a life that I admire although we have not actually met.

Today, Kenny has returned, once again, to his art and has re-embraced his role as an activist with his most recent CD, “Sister Oh Sister” and performances and CD sales that support, among others, Tennesseans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, The Nashville Rescue Mission, Alive Hospice, Earthmatters, Amnesty International, and various organizations that work with victims of domestic violence, and support women and native peoples’ rights.

I LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING HIM SOON.

Yep. It’s me alright. I knew that you couldn’t miss me if I didn’t go away. I’ve been in Nashville for 22 years. I first started coming here after living for three years in Bristol, Tn.. The “birthplace of country music “. Still doing music and volunteering/social activism. Howard and I go way back. We’ve been friends for 40 years. He’s the brother that I never had. I love the site that Gina started about the great music scene, in De.. It’s been a long time. Many folks have walked on. And I’ve lost track of many others. But this is a great way for us all to connect. I would love to run across some photos from back in the old day. Especially from 1972-1980. If anyone has any, it would be a blast to see them. Gina is a sweetheart, and a dear friend, even though, as she says, we are still to meet in person. I hope that we can remedy that real soon. If any of my old pals are coming through Nashville, feel free to look me up. All of my info can be found on my webpage. Thanks again, Gina, for all your hardwork, support, and committment to us old timers. Bliss and blessings to all. And as Woody Guthrie used to say. “Take it Easy. But take it.”
